Saturday September 7, 2019 was a day of celebration for 727 AVSEC and Fire Officers who graduated from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The event took place at the Service Development Centre, Afaka, Kaduna State, and was graced by a number of high profile dignitaries including the Honorable Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation, Engr. Musa Hassan, the Managing Director of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu, Capt. Mohammed Abdulsalami, Rector of NCAT amongst others.

During the ceremony, Senator Hadi Sirika stated that the Federal Government of Nigeria will continue to enhance the security and safety of the Nation’s Airports through training and aptitude development of staff, in conformation with the demands of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He made this announcement during the passing out parade of 727 Aviation Security and Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Firefighting Services Personnel.

He also cautioned the graduants to put service before everything else because their ability to set priorities will ultimately determine the quality of their work. “In accepting to be trained as AVSEC and ARFFS cadets, you must realize that is a privilege for you to serve your country at this level, as the aviation industry is one place where adherence and commitment to rules and standards are applied strictly to the letter”, he said.

In the same vein, Capt. Yadudu, advised the graduants to realize that their chosen field of study is not just a career, but also a calling. Therefore, they must possess, as watch words, honour, respect and devotion to duty. In his own words, “There is no doubt that the period you have spent during your training has considerably prepared you both in learning and character, to become ambassadors of not only service and the Authority, but also that of the country, in the eye of all airport users both local foreign.”

Soon after the various speeches followed the highlight of the event, which was the presentation of awards of excellence to graduants who had performed brilliantly in various categories such as Fire Commanders, Parade Commanders and Aviation Security Officers.

In his end address, the MD of FAAN reassured the public of the Authority’s continual investment in its human resources, and challenged the graduants to possess an optimum sense of responsibility while being unswerving as they work in their various capacities.
