A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between South African Airways (SAA) and Africa World Airlines (AWA). This MOU will provide more travel destinations for the clients of both airlines traveling within and beyond the West African region. The document was signed between the CEOs of SAA and AWA, Mr. Vuyani Jarana and Mr. John Quan respectively, at the Ghana Ministry of Aviation in Accra –Ghana, in the presence of Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda, the Ghana Minister of Aviation.
“As the leading carrier on the continent, our aim is to improve air travel connections on the continent through partnerships and this agreement with AWA goes a long way towards improving intra-Africa travel,” said Vuyani Jarana, SAA CEO.
“This agreement with South African Airways will help consolidate Africa World Airlines’ position as one of the leading airlines in West Africa. We are excited by the potential that this African partnership can deliver, and are confident that it will be a win-win relationship for both sides,” said John Quan, AWA CEO.
In 2015, SAA and Africa World Airlines formed an alliance, which brought about the commencement of flights from Accra to Washington Dulles.
The relationship between SAA and AWA has evolved due to SAA’s finalized technology integration with Africa world Airlines which allows the customers of both airlines to have access to each other’s network. It is expected that in time, this agreement will evolve to a code share agreement, allowing SAA customers to go from Johannesburg to Accra, Washington to Accra using a single ticket.
